What do you get when you combine a kids birthday, family getaway and beautiful resort? A flipping awesome 5th birthday celebration, thats what!!!!
I love a good kids party, but with a young baby, a busy business and a half renovated house- the thought of organising a birthday party (because I can't ever do things half hearted) with 40+ kids with their parents coming over was way too much to handle right now. Plus, these days: jumping castles or themed high teas seem to be the trend-which may be fun and gorgeous, but
So when I had the opportunity to work with Wyndham Holidays, I knew exactly what our holiday would be for! Mylas 5th birthday was in June, and she LOVES to do things as a family and be made to feel a bit OTT special for things, so a holidays JUST FOR HER was the perfect plan.
We chose to stay at the Surfers paradise resort. It wasn't too far from home (3hr drive) and we knew it would be surrounded by fun and exciting things to do with the kids, as well as give us parents a relaxing weekend too!
We arrived later in the evening then we planned, but the staff were incredibly welcoming and friendly and gave us our room key- on the TOP FLOOR! It may have been late for the girls, and way past their bedtime but their excitement was not dimmed in the slightest! Running around from room to room- they found their little gift from the hotel + ours before we barely walked through the door ourselves (um, thanks Wyndham- sooo kind!). Our eyes though were only on the VIEW (yes, even in the night- it was a sparkle of lights mixed with a soft glow off the beach)! Our 2 bedroom premium apartment was on the corner of the building, with the most incredible ocean, city and everything in between- views! The girls had their own room, with amazing city and river views with two single beds. Myla decided to unpack her suitcase the night before into the wardrobe and set everything out how she likes it- neat and tidy (a child after my own heart...as I also did the same). We had our own bedroom, with tv, ensuite and our own private ocean view balcony off our bedroom! The rest of the apartment featured a laun dry, 2nd bathroom, large open plan kitchen, dining and living area, as well as massive glass windows/sliding doors opening up on the apartment length balcony. The kitchen was self sufficient, so we were able to walk to the local supermarket and do a mini shop so we didn't have to eat out the entire weekend (thought tempting!)- we made pancakes one morning and pizza one night!
The next morning we woke (after a slight sleep in.. how good are dark hotel rooms with kids?!?!) and headed down to the buffet breakfast, and literally spent 2 hours there! Lewis made the MOST (as he always does) at the buffet and probably had 7 breakfasts. I worked my way through a hot serving of bacon and eggs, pancakes and finished with some pastries (ok, maybe I had a bowl of coco pops too). The girls ate on and off throughout that time, and in between they played with the toys in the lobby tv room- they also borrowed some games from the reception which basically meant we had breakfast in peace!!!
We loved how close Wyndham was to all the local attractions Surfers paradise has to offer. We took the girls scooters and went for a walk to Cavill each day to explore. Walked around the shops a bit, and along the boardwalk on the beach. Surfers Paradise is such a great place to take kids!! We mostly enjoyed just hanging out around the hotel though! The girls wanted to swim ALL day, in the amazing pool-even though the weather wasn't swimming weather! I couldn't blame them though, as the pool area was so relaxing, and I was even tempted into the spa one afternoon too!
